Sand Springs, Oklahoma
Cheryl Denise Childress, 65, of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, lovingly known as “Gigi” to her grandchildren, was called home on August 13, 2026, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Born on February 24, 1961, at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, to Frank and Charlene Hunt, Cheryl lived a life defined by peace, warmth, and an open heart for everyone she met.
Cheryl was a Christian, and she carried a spirit of grace into everything she did. She was inclusive and caring, with a laid-back, fun-loving nature and an adventurous heart that drew people to her. She had a wonderful sense of humor and a silly, playful spirit—always ready with a joke and quick to make the people around her laugh. Those who knew her remember her gentle way of making everyone feel welcome, valued, and loved.
Cheryl found joy in life’s simple beauties. She adored fresh flowers and had a natural gift for gardening, tending to the world around her with the same care she gave the people in her life. An avid reader and a lover of music, she especially enjoyed the Dave Matthews Band. Above all, Cheryl was devoted to her family, and her greatest happiness came from caring for those she loved.
Cheryl shared an especially close bond with her two sisters, Donna and Debbie. The three were inseparable, treasuring the time they spent together and the countless memories they made over the years.
She was preceded in death by her father, Frank Hunt. Cheryl is survived by her mother, Charlene Hunt; her three children, Kyle Goins, Kevin Goins, and Carli Childress; her four cherished grandchildren, Garrett, Avery, Griffin, and Emery Goins; and her sisters, Donna Meeker and her husband, Rod Meeker, and Debbie Strickland and her husband, Keith Strickland; along with many extended family members and dear friends whose lives she touched.
A memorial service celebrating Cheryl’s life will be held on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Legacy Chapel at Woodland Memorial Park in Sand Springs, Oklahoma. In keeping with her love of fresh flowers, floral tributes are warmly welcomed.
Cheryl’s legacy of peace, kindness, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
But those that trust in the LORD will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.
