Wanda Rhyne, a beloved matriarch, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born on June 18, 1943, in Hitchita, Oklahoma, Wanda was the 8th of 11 children born to William McKinley "Mack" Ross and Ola Mae (Warf) Ross, who later moved their young family to Dallas, TX where Wanda grew up and lived before moving to Tulsa, OK in her late 20s. Her life was a tapestry of love, kindness, and dedication, woven together with the threads of family, friends, faith, and community.
Wanda was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Donald James "Jake" Rhyne, with whom she shared a beautiful life in Tulsa's historic Red Fork district. Together, they raised four children in this close-knit community, where family, friendship and old-fashioned values were the foundation of daily life. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her sisters and brothers Billy Ross, Bobby Ross, Shirley Douglas, Maxine Latham, Audrey Gillingham, and Christine Carey, as well as her dear aunts and uncles Kit Ross, Dot Ross, Lola Holloway, and Josey Carter.
She is survived by her loving children, Rhonda Majors (Doug), Teresa Christian, Ryan Canaday, Mary Rhyne McGee (Sean), and her siblings, Alice Reynolds, Barbara Harrison, Paul Ross and John Ross. Wanda's legacy of love continues through her six grandchildren: Matt Majors (Sarah), Robyn Canaday (Jose), Dylan Canaday, Jonathan Christian, Audrey McGee, and Jacob McGee. Her eight great-grandchildren, Aubree Bundy (Brayden), Ava Majors, Victoria Montgomery, Luke Majors, Damien Stiggers, Allie Rae Majors, Levi Majors, and Eloisa Cordero, were a source of immense joy and pride.
Wanda’s home was always filled with warmth, generosity, and the irresistible aroma of her delightful cooking and baking. Wanda also found time to work various part-time jobs, most notably at The Hungry Pelican in Red Fork, where her friendly charm and caring nature left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
A member of the Red Fork Baptist Church, Wanda's faith was a guiding light in her life. She enjoyed traveling, listening to music, reading, watching her “stories” and family gatherings. Her ability to make everyone feel welcome and included was unmatched, and her calm, casual nature was a gift to all who knew her.
Services to honor and celebrate Wanda's life will be held on August 25, 2026, at 10:00 am at Dillon Funeral Service, located at 1200 N Cleveland Ave, Sand Springs, OK.
