Charles Edward Lookout, Jr. Obituary (1922 - 2020)

Charles Edward Lookout, Jr. passed away on May 6, 2020 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was 97 years old. Charles was born on December 29, 1922 on the Lookout Farm of Pawhuska, Oklahoma. His parents were Charles Lookout Sr. and Sadie Miller Lookout. His Osage name was Che-topa (Four Lodges). He graduated from Chilocco High School in 1941. Soon after graduation, Charles enlisted in the Navy and traveled to San Diego, California for basic training and then began his service from 1942-1946. He served as a Machinist Mate Third Class on the U.S.S Saratoga CV-3, during WWII. Lookout was stationed in the Pacific and Indian Ocean during the Iwo Jima Battle and survived the Japanese kamikaze attack of the Saratoga on February 21, 1945. Upon completion of his service in the Navy, Charles attended college at Oklahoma State University and the University of Oklahoma. He graduated from OU in 1967 with a Master's degree in Library Science. Lookout worked at the Tulsa City-County Library for several years and retired in 1986. Charles was proud to be a veteran and liked to reminisce about his service days. He also enjoyed going to the Osage Inlonshka dances and was a member of the Wa-Xa-Ko-Li'n committee. Every year in June you could find him attending the dances and visiting with relatives there. In the fall, Charles liked to attend veteran dances and events. Lookout was preceded in death by his sister Delores Lookout Ballard, nephew Louis Anthony Ballard, his loving wife, and child. He leaves behind his nieces and nephews Anne Ballard, Charles Ballard, Avis Ballard, Jenna Quetone, Louis Ballard III, Simone Ballard, Erin Casoose, Carly Ballard, Lucas Quetone, Nathan Dreadfulwater, and many more from his extended family. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 am, Monday, May 11, 2020 at the Pawhuska City Cemetery with Ira Lookout officiating. Pall Bearers are Charles Ballard, Terry Lookout, Esau Howell, James Hilburn, Lucas Quetone, and Nathan Dreadfulwater Interment - Pawhuska City Cemetery in Pawhuska, Oklahoma
