Dorothy Lee (Dewitt) Horton Obituary (1926

Dorothy Lee (DeWitt) Horton, was born on December 21st to Ola Ethel (Lankford) DeWitt and Columbus Edward DeWitt at Okemah, Oklahoma. After the death of her mother when she was ten, she and her sister Edna Mae was raised by her sister and brother-in-law, Ruby and Willie Horton of Prue, Ok. When she was 16 she married the love of her life, Roscoe Horton Jr., who was 17. They married in Sedan, Kansas, since he was too young to get married in Oklahoma. They made their first home in a boxcar on the railroad line at Wekiwa, Oklahoma. To this marriage was born six children. Roscoe, Dorothy and their family lived and farmed in Boston Pool, Prue, Sand Springs Line, Mannford, Wildhorse, New Prue, and Shamrock. Dorothy was a seamstress, crafter, artist and homemaker. She loved sewing for her family and anyone else who needed things made or altered. She and Roscoe always made quilts or woodworking items for their children for Christmas. She was also an accomplished fisherwoman and sports hunter. In her later years, she loved making bookmarks and going to Wal-mart and passing them out to all who would accept them. After Roscoe died in 2010, Dorothy moved to Bristow until she could no longer live by herself. She lived with her daughter and son-in-law, Estelene and James Eubanks in Pawnee, Oklahoma until January 2019 when she moved to Green Tree Assisted Living in Sand Springs. She died on May 9th at Green Tree Memory Care. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roscoe Horton Jr.; her parents, Ola Ethel DeWitt and Columbus Edward DeWitt; one sister, Ruby Horton; four brothers, Hiram DeWitt, Harold Odell DeWitt, L. C. DeWitt, and J. R. DeWitt; and two daughter-in-laws, Deretha Holliman Horton and Joann Weaver Horton. She is survived by her children; Jim Horton and wife, Nadine of Skiatook, OK., Estelene Eubanks and husband, James of Pawnee, Ok., Edwin Horton and wife, Beverly, of Coweta, Ok., Dean Horton of Gypsy, Ok., LaVonna Lorton of Sand Springs, Ok., Loretta Scott and husband, Sonny of Catoosa, Ok.; thirteen grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, six great, great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. Dorothy had an infectious smile and was loved by all who came to know her. She has made it to her eternal home with her beloved Roscoe and her Saviour Jesus Christ.
