James Holley Cooper Obituary (1953

James H. Cooper, Age 62, affectionately known as 'Coop,' died at 11:06 p.m., Thursday, July 23, 2015 from a senseless act of violence in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his father, Jimmy; mother, Leola; brother Michael; sister Robin; and grandparents. James was born on May 15, 1953 in Clinton, OK. He was a long time resident of Tulsa, OK. After graduating magna cum laude from Lincoln University as a 4 time All-American in football and track, he elected to start his career at City Service Oil Company in Tulsa, OK. After a few years of working at City Service and successfully completing his MBA at the University of Tulsa, he moved to Los Angeles as Manager of Investment Analysis for Occidental Petroleum (OXY). Two years later, he returned back to Tulsa as Director of Planning and Business Development for Occidental Petroleum. After leaving OXY, he became a serial entrepreneur, community activists and developer of the Holley Heights Residential Development. In addition, he volunteered his time assisting and training young athletes, of which over 300 received college scholarships and several went on to play professional sports. He continued his own athletic development by playing tennis, which led to him winning several tournaments across the nation and playing #1 singles for our 5.0 rated USTA Team winning the USTA sectional in the Los Angeles area. He leaves to cherish his memor, three sons - James, Jay, and Jordan, two daughters - Laquita, and Ivory, five grandchildren - Nakaya, Ashon, Amaria, Deshaun, and Liam that he loved dearly. He also leaves two brothers - Val Jean and Byron, two sisters; Leola Lambert and Jimmie Riveria. He also leaves several nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, and cousins. Celebration of life service will be held at The Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame, 1st Street and South Boston Avenue, Tulsa, OK 74103 at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 31, 2015.
