Kay Kathryn Houk

–

Sand Springs, Oklahoma

Kay Kathryn (Williams) Houk was born to Glenn and Alice Williams on July 26, 1939 in Cushing, Oklahoma and went to be with her Lord & Savior on July 9, 2021 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Kay started school in Cushing but completed her education with Ripley Schools after her family purchased and moved to a farm in the area. While in Ripley she met and married Jerry Potts, and this union was blessed with three children: Steve, Gregg and Stephanie. The marriage ended in divorce. Kay later married Jack Houk; he adopted her children, and they became a family.

Kay's various passions led her to several careers throughout her life. She worked in retail at Sears and later, Steinmart. She and Jack owned and operated two Daylight Donut shops. She later partnered with her close friend and sister-in-law, Kathy Houk, to own and operate the Pumpkin Patch Plaster Shack.

Later in life, when Jack began a career as a long-haul trucker, Kay quit her job and went on the road with him, seeing the world through the windshield.

After the death of her father in 1996, Kay and the rest of the family spent time seeing some different parts of the world since her mother insisted on doing some serious traveling. Two memorable trips were an Alaskan Cruise and a trip to Hawaii.

For nearly 50 years, Kay and Jack lived in same comfortable home in Jenks, near the area now known as the Riverwalk. The grandchild all think of Grandma's house as a stable place where so many memories were made. It was the site of many holiday gatherings and even the wedding site for son, Gregg and his wife, Billie. The home was always open to friends and loved ones who needed a place to stay, whether for a single night or several months. Two of their granddaughters, Rachel and Brittany, made the house their home when they were adopted by Kay and Jack to be raised as daughters.

Although they could have moved, Kay and Jack chose to renovate their beloved home to fit their changing needs. Grandchildren, nieces and nephews all have special memories of the treasures throughout the home.

To everyone who knew Kay, her Christian faith was apparent. She never missed a chance to share a scripture or offer a prayer to a friend in need. She stayed active in her church as long as her health permitted, volunteering time at their store that helped people with clothing and household needs. She considered her church family as dear as her own.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack; son, Gregg; daughter, Stephanie; and brother, Glenn II (Ben).

She is survived by her son, Steve and wife, Belinda; daughter-in-law, Billie; daughter Rachel and husband, Chris Suggs; daughter, Brittany Houk and her sons, Drake, Jaxson and Finn; granddaughter, Kelly Houk and her daughters Jordyn and Huntyr; granddaughter, Kristen and husband, Kyle Lively; granddaughter, Kimberly and husband, Ryan Griggs; and sister-in-law, Sue (Williams) and husband, Jimmy Burns.

A memorial service for Kay will be held on July 26, 2021, 11:00AM, at the Community of Christ, 510 S. Hudson, Tulsa, OK 74112.
