Sand Springs, Oklahoma
Louis Nelson Long shed his earthly bonds on January 19 2023 to join his blessed Savior at the age of 94.
He was born November 18, 1928 in Eudora, Arkansas to Louis Edwin Long and Flossie Pearl Long (Howe). He was a graduate of high school in Sand Springs, and retired from a long career at Sheffield Steel- where he was lovingly referred to as Nellie.
In his younger days he was an avid sportsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, water skiing, throwing rocks at pretty girls, reading his Bible, word search puzzles, and teaching his kids and grandkids to love the same. He was a tinkerer and a problem solver, devising a brilliant belt for his grandchildren to wear hunting to haul around all the the wonderful dinners he caught. He was a crappie magnet, catching so many that he was able to share with others after his family got sick of eating them (there's probably still some in the freezer!). He was also a dedicated friend to many.
He took pride in his Lord and Savior and shared this relationship with anyone who would stop long enough to listen. He had a beautiful voice and would sing in the choir and perform duets with his daughter. During family reunions he was often found singing gospel music with extended family. Even in his elderly age, Nelson would visit and minister to shut ins and others who couldn't make it to church. He was active in church up until his later years, enjoying the fellowship of fellow believers and his church family.
He is mourned by those he left behind. A sister Betty, a son Louis and his wife, a daughter Sharolyn, two granddaughters, two grandsons, 10 great-grandchildren, and 7 great great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by Agnes his beautiful bride, two sisters, and one great grand daughter.
