Preston Duane Hollis

–

Sand Springs, Oklahoma

Preston Duane Hollis, 63 of Tulsa, Oklahoma passed away on Monday, December 19, 2016 at his residence. He was born July 13, 1953 in Garden City, Kansas to the late Rev. Preston Fredrick Hollis and Lillie Edna Smith Hollis. Preston was a former resident of Sand Springs, Oklahoma where he lived for many years prior to moving to Tulsa.
After becoming gravely ill, Preston was diagnosed with juvenile type I diabetes at age 8. Given the medical limitations of rural hospitals during that time, he was lucky to have survived. He graduated high school, and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in Psychology from the American Christian College in 1977. While still taking night classes, Preston became a supervisor at Guaranty National Bank, where he met Beverly, and they wed in 1979. However, he spent the last half of his life disabled from diabetes complications. This gave him the chance to stay home and raise his four daughters. He never missed an opportunity to show how proud he was of them. Preston loved his many dogs, watching college football and basketball, and building things around the house, but he loved his family most of all. He called his loved ones almost daily; sometimes to request prayer, sometimes to tell them jokes, sometimes just to say he loved them. He endured many surgeries, had many medical implants, and went to dialysis three times a week. He lived every day in pain. Through it all, he never felt sorry for himself, and hardly ever complained. He could have easily given up, but his desire to watch his children and grandchildren grow up, and his strong faith in the Lord, always kept him waking up each day.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Beverly Ann Wood Hollis of the home; four daughters, Michelle Hollis Tacha of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Stephanie Lancaster and husband Ed of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, Stacey Smith and husband Michael of Sand Springs, Oklahoma and Ashley Hollis of Tulsa, Oklahoma; two brothers, Marvin Hollis and wife Barbara of Portage, Michigan and Melvin Hollis and wife Shirley of Springfield, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Matt and Joshua Tacha, Ryan, Taylor and Avery Lancaster and Nathan and Tyler Smith; one great-grandson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and extended family. Preston was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Rev. Paul Hollis.
